ERIC RAVILIOUS
(1903-1942)

Biography
British artist who devoted himself chiefly to wood-engraving (illustrations for The Natural History of Selborne by Gilbert White). He studied at the Design School of the R.C.A. (1919-22) under Nash and met Bawden.

He initiated a collaboration with Bawden on a mural decoration at Morley Coll., London (1928) which continued for the next 7 years. Ravilious's output was prolific as a watercolourist (Train Landscape, 1940) and print maker, and in 1936 he was commissioned by Wedgwood to execute designs for pottery and china.
