Biography
Sculptor, painter, engraver and lithographer, Underwood was
born in London on Christmas Day 1890. He studied at the Regent
Street Polytechnic 1907-10, the RCA 1910-13 and at the Slade
School 1919-20.
Underwood
travelled extensively throughout the 1920's and served in the
Camoflage Section of the RE during the 1914-18 war. He had his
first one-man show in 1922 at the Chenil Galleries. He also
exhibited with the NEAC. He was an accomplished author of several
books, including 'Art for Heaven's Sake' (1934) and 'Bronzes
of West Africa (1949).
His
work is held in many important private and public collections
throughout the world.
